WASHINGTON, DC
The Knowledge Management Professional Society (KMPro) announced today the details of its expanded KM certification program which will provide for opportunities for those who practice Knowledge Management (KM) to pursue three levels of professional qualification and knowledge management certification.
"As the leading KM professional society, one of our roles is to initiate, establish, evaluate, maintain and administer professional credentialing programs that promote and support knowledge management professionals and the knowledge management profession," explains Dr. Dan Kirsch, KMPro's Chief Marketing Officer.
"Our benchmark in establishing this new program," added Dr. Kirsch, "was to ensure that the KMPro professional certification program matched best-practice certification programs currently utilized by other major professional societies and we believe that our program is unique within the KM professional community."
KMPro is a certifying body and one of its purposes is to encourage the practice of knowledge management, reflect the diversity of thought found in this growing field, and disseminate the best ideas and tools from the many disciplines that facilitate organizational learning and improvement.
To support this goal, KMPro will now administer three separate levels of KM certifications through its Knowledge Management Certification Board (KMCB)®:
• Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM)™ Certification
• Certified Knowledge Management Professional (CKMP)™
• Master Certified Knowledge Management Professional (MKMP)™
KMPro Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM)™ Certification:
The KMPro Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM)™ certification workshop is a vendor provided workshop approved and sponsored by KMPro. Participants completing that workshop receive the "KMPro Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM)™ Certification." In the near future KMPro anticipates offering additional certifications as additional vendors and offerings are approved. All candidates for the CKM™ certification must commit to the KMPro Code of Ethics.
Certified Knowledge Management Professional (CKMP)™: This certification builds upon the KMPro CKM™ Certification and to obtain this level of certification candidates must demonstrate successful practical application of a knowledge management implementation project. Candidates must provide documentation related to a KM project that they have completed and a qualified KMCB® reviewer will review all the documentation received from a candidate to determine if all requirements have been met. All candidates for the certification must commit to the KMPro Code of Ethics.
Master Certified Knowledge Management Professional (MKMP)™:
In addition to the requirements for the CKMP™, candidates must meet work experience eligibility requirements. The eligibility requirements include a minimum of three years of documented experience in the field of knowledge management, and candidates must provide a detailed description of work performed in multiple KM projects with attestations from internal/external clients or supervisors. A qualified KMCB® reviewer will review all the documentation received from a candidate to determine if all requirements have been met and to ensure that the documented work is commensurate with a “master” level of expertise in KM. Once certified, MKMPs™ must apply for re-certification every three years to maintain the MKMP™ designation. All candidates for the certification must commit to the KMPro Code of Ethics.
