The growth of KMPro depends upon its membership. Any non-profit professional society
or association is heavily dependent upon its membership for sustainability and
growth. There are a number of ways that you as a member can help your KM professional
society to grow and each of these would allow for you to match your own available
time, ability and capability to an appropriate support role. Your participation
can make a difference!
12 Ways Any Member Can Contribute to the
Growth of KMPro:
The KMPro "Benefactors" program provides a unique opportunity for members who
are typically not able to actively participate in KMPro activities due to conflicting
personal or professional commitments, to still directly contribute to the growth
of KMPro. Funding realized through the KMPro Benefactors program are used to cover
operating expenses (e.g., KMPro portal, KMPro events, etc.). The KMPro Benefactor
program is available at three levels of participation:
Do you know someone who is a Knowledge Management professional, or perhaps someone
who is developing an interest in Knowledge Management? If so, suggest to them
that they consider a membership
in KMPro. If you like, you can provide their contact information to KMPro's
VP, Member Services (Wayne
Hulehan) and KMPro can initiate contact regarding membership.
When chapters are in the startup phase and not yet formally organized, having
an available and suitable location is often key to bringing members together.
And established chapters are often appreciative of the opportunity to change
the venue of their meetings, to provide variety or to alternate locations (making
it easier for some members to attend). If you have a suitable location and would
like to make that available to support your regional/area KMPro chapter you
can easily do so by either contacting the Chapter Leadership for your area or
by letting KMPro's VP, Member Services (Wayne
Hulehan) that you would like to do so.
Volunteer
to Serve in a Chapter Leadership Position
Be recognized for your knowledge management expertise and leadership abilities
by participating in a KMPro chapter leadership position. Whether you have previous
experience or not, if you think you have what it takes to serve as a Chapter
Leader, contact KMPro's VP, Member Services (Wayne
Hulehan) to find out how you can become a KMPro Chapter Leader or work within
our Regional Communities as a face-to-face organizers.
Volunteer
to Write an Article for the KMPro Journal
Become a contributor to the KMPro Journal by submitting a peer-reviewed article,
book reviews, success stories, or other works in progress. Become a reviewer
for peer reviewed articles, and join the editorial staff. View of copy of the
current edition of
the journal, and then contact the KMPro Journal Editor, Dr.
John Girard for more information.
Contributing to the KMPro Member's download
area provides an opportunity for you to show off your Knowledge Management
expertise, and an opportunity to share your knowledge with other KMPro members.
Consider contributing a white paper, case study or article to the KMPro member's
download area. Contact Dr.
Dan Kirsch for more information.
Volunteer to moderate a KMPro discussion forum or submit a thought provoking
post for the KMPro listservs -- and earn your membership at the same time! KMPro
has a broad variety of discussion
groups provided for our members. As you probably already know, sometimes
discussion groups and mailing lists (listservs) need a gentle nudge in the right
direction to get them moving. With that in mind, we solicite for help with moderation
of our KM
Topics and Communities
of Practice discussion threads and with our Listservs (KMPro-Members
& Knowledge-Management).
If you are interested in serving as a community steward/leader for any of those
discussion threads, please contact Dr.
Dan Kirsch about that interest (and share a bit about yourself and why the
topic is of interest to you) and we will provide additional information about
our expectations of community stewards/leaders. If you do serve as a community
steward/leader KMPro will provide you with a full KMPro membership while you
serve as a volunteer (or extend current memberships based on your length of
participation). And if you are interested in volunteering and would like to
suggest a new topic, please also contact us
about that and we'll consider adding it to our discussion group.
Patronize KMPro's partners by taking advantage of discounts offered to our members
for KM events and publications. KMPro has established key partnerships with
a variety of organizations who have graciously agreed to provide significant
discounts to KMPro member -- knowledge management related events and publications
(e.g., Ark Group's conferences / master classes & "Inside Knowledge"
magazine; Human Capital Institute discounted memberships and events; BlogOn;
and others). Patronizing these partners demonstrates the value of a partnership
with KMPro, and this of course benefits our membership by encouraging these
partners to continue our relationship. More information on our partners and
their events can be found in the News section of the portal, or in the Event
Calendar.
If you're involved or connected to any Knowledge Management related events that
you think could benefit from KMPro sponsorship, or that would be of interest
to our members, pass that along to. KMPro presently partners and sponsors a
variety of Knowledge Management related events -- the benefit of doing so is
that we are typically then able to offer discounts or other promotional benefits
to our membership. So if you think that you know of an event that KMPro should
or could be connected to, pass that along to Dr.
Dan Kirsch .
This one is particularly easy, yet very effective in helping to get the word
out about KMPro -- include any number of different kinds of KMPro related email
signature links. For example, to add a link to the KMPro portal and a link to
join KMPro simply paste the following html code at the bottom of your email
signature line:
<b>I'm a <a href="http://KMPro.org">KMPro</a> --
a Knowledge Management Professional!
If you are a KM Professional -- <a href="https://membership.kmpro.org/index.cfm?Action=MemSignup">Join
KMPro!</a></b>
And here's a graphic with a "Join KMPro" link that's also easy
to add (to either your signature, or to a web site), simply paste the following
html code (make sure you keep the line of code unbroken) at the bottom of your
email signature line:
Or to put directly add this standard banner (468 x 60) in your ad rotation,
simply copy the below graphic as you would any graphic and add it to your web
site, and then use the following as the link to KMPro's site: <a
href="http://KMPro.org">
A very basic link to KMPro's portal will help get the word out about KMPro,
and help send additional visitors to our portal. Simply paste the following
html code at the bottom of your email signature line:
<a href="http://KMPro.org">Knowledge
